Summit Technology Academy: a 2019-2020 PLTW Distinguished School
Digital Electronics: Where Math Meets Circuitry
This fast-paced, college level course in applied logic gives students the opportunity to learn how computers/logic circuits think and control the world around us. Students will use applied math to understand the logic behind the circuits, as well as, computer simulation software to design and test digital circuitry prior to the actual construction of the circuits. Students will have the opportunity to learn everything from basic electronic circuit design, logic circuit design, all the way up to and including programming and interfacing with micro-controllers, which includes robot applications. Student can expect to use the engineering design process to think critically and independently solve open-ended problems.
Notes: Students need to choose 2 of the following 3 courses (Digital Electronics, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering) to make a full-year selection.

MIC Accelerated Early Bachelor Degree Program
Students who take Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) and Digital Electronics (DE) at Summit Technology Academy their junior year AND have a 3.0 unweighted GPA/95% attendance may also choose to participate in a university partnership program called Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC), in which students begin to earn a bachelor's degree while still in high school. The bachelor's degree is offered through the University of Central Missouri- Lee's Summit. This program helps to significantly reduce the overall cost of a bachelor's degree. Students will also participate in extensive paid internship opportunities with companies such as Burns & McDonnell, Black & Veatch, Grundfos, and KCPL. Students who qualify and are interested in this program must mark their interest on their STA Online Application.
Student Testimonials
"I liked designing circuits for the robots." Jake Kouba, Lee’s Summit HS Graduate
"I've always been interested in math and science so I knew that I'd love engineering. I chose Summit Tech because it would give me college credit and better qualify me for Missouri S & T engineering program." Hayley VanWinkle, Lee’s Summit North HS - 2014 Graduate
