Digital Media Technology: Preparing Students For Creative Careers in Audio/Video Editing & Production

The Digital Media Technology program at Summit Technology Academy gives students an opportunity to explore and prepare for careers in arts, audio/video technology, and communications. Students will focus on the complete video and audio production workflow from pre-production to post-production. They will work in teams to integrate video, motion graphics, and sound in entrepreneurial and career experience-based projects for their schools and/or communities. Students have the opportunity to gain skills towards an industry-recognized certification in Final Cut Pro X or Logic Pro X.

Prerequisites:

  • Grade: 11 or 12
  • Algebra I with a C or better
  • 2.5 GPA (Unweighted)
  • 90% Attendance
  • Outside class Internet access is required.

Other Requirements:

  • Reading/Writing 10th grade level
  • A total of two (2) credits in any of the following areas: Fine Arts, Practical Arts related to Arts and Communications Career Pathway (e.g. Intro Video Tech/Broadcasting, News for Print and Online I, Visual Arts, Advanced Video Tech, or comparable courses)
  • Additionally, applicants are required to submit one (1) audio/visual portfolio artifact such as: a video created and/or edited by the applicant (not to exceed 3 minutes), an audio file created, recorded, and/or mixed by the applicant (not to exceed 3 minutes), a digital photograph captured and edited by the applicant, a video recording of the applicant performing (this could be from a school large or small ensemble or solo performance), or any similar item of the applicant's choice. College Dual Credit:  UCM MUS 1410 Fundamentals of Music Technology l: Hardware (.5), MUS 1420 Fundamentals of Music Technology l: Software (.5), MUS 1450 Fundamentals of Music Technology II (1) (2 credits for eligible students).
