Professional Nursing
Professional Nursing: Gaining Clinical Experience
This course is designed to prepare senior students, who have identified nursing as a clear career goal, for a collegiate registered nursing program. Students will learn through classroom instruction and practice in a clinical skills lab. Major units of study include nursing history and career exploration, pharmaceutical math, CPR/First Aid, nursing skills, and medical terminology. The course will introduce students to the nursing process, nursing documentation, effective communication skills, medical ethics, and NCLEX-RN style assessment questions. Students will learn and use APA style in the production of a research paper. Dual college credit options are subject to change based on instructor qualifications and college requirements.
Note: Students must provide their own transportation for clinical experiences.
This program gives high school students the opportunity to earn college nursing credit and more quickly complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing through the University of Central Missouri.

Prerequisites:
- Grade: 12 ONLY
- 2.5 GPA (Unweighted)
- 90% Attendance
- Algebra I, B- or better
- Reading/Writing: 10th grade level
- Biology with B- or better
- Chemistry with B- or better
- Outside class Internet access is required.
Other Requirements for Clinical Placements:
- Background Check
- Negative Results from Drug Screening
- Proof of immunizations
Recommended:
- Anatomy/Physiology (completed or concurrent enrollment)
- Chemistry II
- Algebra II
- College Prep English

College Dual Credit: MCC BIO 150 (2 credit hours for eligible students); UCM NUR 1700/2710 and NUR 2000 (4 hrs credit for eligible students) MCC requires Accuplacer placement or an equivalent ACT score.
