Three graduates from the Summit Technology Academy are featured in videos recently produced by the Centers of Excellence Consortium (CEC) . The videos focus on the program’s advantages for high school students.  Students featured in the videos are TJ who is an alumni of one of STA's Computer Science classes [video link], Sarah, who an alumni of STA's Pre-professional Nursing class [video link],  and Dakota who is an alumni of STA's Engineering program [video link]  Each video tells the story of the student’s experience at STA and where they landed professionally in each career field.  

Three graduates from the Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC) are featured in videos recently produced by the University of Central Missouri. The videos focus on the program’s advantages for students and employers and include interviews of Cerner and DST staff members as well as the three 2016 Missouri Innovation Campus graduates. All three videos may be viewed on Lee’s Summit R-7 School District YouTube or select the video links below.

Students featured in the videos are Jamison Guilford [video link], who interned at Cerner; Joseph Nooner [video link], who also interned at Cerner; Quinn Cosgrove [video link] , who interned at DST;  and Colby Huser [video link], who interned at SAIC. Each video tells the story of the student’s journey through the nationally recognized four-year program including a focus on the three-year internships from the students’ and the employers’ perspectives. The students featured in the videos are currently full-time employees of the companies in which they interned.

Students enter the program between their high-school sophomore and junior years and participate in three-year paid internships. The participants earn their associate degrees from Metropolitan Community College soon after high-school graduation, earning their bachelor’s degrees just two years after leaving high school.

ULTRAX Aerospace uses their internship program to recruit and develop youthful talent. Through their experiences with student interns from STA, such as King Butcher featured here, they have found students with open minds, advanced skills, and a strong desire to learn and apply new skills on projects that have a lasting impact on their business and on the interns' career prospects.

Austin Dubois - Initiative Leads to Internship

After hosting a Manufacturing Day event last year, ULTRAX Aerospace in Lee's Summit hired one of the students as an intern. This video highlights how internships can help build a bridge between companies and the future workforce.
