Rear Adm. Rebecca McCormickBoyle is a native of Griffins Mills, New York. Following graduation from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Nursing, she was commissioned in 1981 and reported to Naval Hospital Orlando, Florida, where she worked as a surgical and critical care nurse. In 1984, she transferred to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and served as a coronary care nurse before returning to Buffalo in 1987 to be a medical programs recruiter.
In 1991, she reported to Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan, as division officer for inpatient and ambulatory care. While in
Okinawa, she completed her Master of Science in Human Resource Management Systems from Chapman University.
She earned a Master of Health Administration from Baylor University in 1996.
McCormickBoyle served at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, 1996 – 1999, as a Quality and Professional Affairs director, Branch Clinics director, special assistant for operations and senior nurse for the Fleet Hospital. In 1999, she reported to the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) where she served as special projects coordinator for Navy Medicine’s Optimization Initiative and then, on promotion to captain, as the Nurse Corps’ career plans officer. Selected for executive medicine, she served as executive officer, Naval Health Clinic Great Lakes, Illinois, from 2005 to 2007 and as commanding officer, Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River, Maryland, from 2007 to 2009. She returned to BUMED in 2009 as the assistant deputy chief for Medical Operations (M3) before assuming the role of chief of staff in January 2012.
Promoted to rear admiral lower half in July 2012 and rear admiral upper half in April 2014, McCormickBoyle assumed the role of director, Navy Nurse Corps, in April 2014. In June 2014 she transferred to Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, where she serves as deputy chief, BUMED, Education and Training, and commander, Navy Medicine Education and Training Command.
Her decorations include the Legion of Merit (three awards), Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. She is an American College of Health Care Executives Fellow and recipient of the 2011 Navy Regent’s Senior Health Care Executive Award. She has been
awarded distinguished alumni awards from Baylor University HCA program, the University of Buffalo School of Nursing and the University of Buffalo.
