Dr. Paul Rutherford, a teacher at Summit Technology Academy, recently spoke to approximately 30 members of the Western Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers at a meeting held in Overland Park, Kan. Paul presented information about Project Lead The Way coursework and its development in this area and implementation in the R-7 School District as well as how the engineers attending could assist with STEM career related efforts. He also shared how the City of Lee’s Summit Public Works Department and HDR Inc. work with students in his spring semester engineering field experience class. The presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session. “I answered these questions and more with vigor relating to my audience that our students need them to share their passion and experiences within their own careers,” Paul said. “Our students need to see the what engineers do on a daily basis, and the realities that they experience with not only subject matter competence but also how to most effectively communicate, and work with others in a team-focused work environment.”
